The days are warm and the birds are singing. Spring is here and I am more than ready to begin my garden. Well, Jerry said for my birthday he would give me a raised garden bed. I am super excited. What should I grow this year?
Ours years living up north in MI and WI, I had gardens. Shasta Daisy, lavender, lambs ear, coral bells, and large variety of herbs. The big question in my mind .... would those same type of plants grow well in SC? So far I haven't seen a shasta daisy in Greenville that can compare to the one I left in Flint. It was "gorgeous" and my kids remember it well.
The herb garden that the boys and Jerry made for me at NIU in Dunbar, WI had a large variety of herbs. I do so want them growing here now. So my spring adventure is underway.
With the price of food going up faster than weeds grow, I want to plant as much as I can. So in preparation of my new raised garden beds, I have diligently been weeding the front flower bed just to get into the spirit of gardening. My neighbor Jenny came over with some garden magazines, web-sites, and ideas. I shared some seeds with her and she said her hubby would be glad to make me the raised beds if Jerry wouldn't care? Jerry does not care! He can cut the wood and put it together for me. Wow, what a great neighbor!
Mom and Dad gave me a Home Depot gift card for my b day. I got some veggies: red, green, and yellow peppers, red leaf lettuce and tomatoes. Also bought some rosemary. I have seedlings coming up too! (parsley, chives, oregano, basil and cilantro.) The peppermint is coming along quite well.
I told Jerry how nice it will be someday soon when he can say to me, "Hon, go get some fresh basil, pepper and tomato for dinner!" His response: "When have I ever said anything like that in the 38 years of marriage?"
A girl can dream can't I?
